Still Life/Product Portolio: Danelectro Guitar

  • Reasoning/Rationale
I plan to photograph a Danelectro Dead on '67 guitar for my still life/product concept. I would like to create an image that portrays the guitar in an interesting way. Danelectro do not have very many images of their products and this is why I thought it may be a good idea to experiment with different and interesting ways to portray their products because no-one seems to have done so. Danelectro is a guitar brand that started in 1947 and the advertisements they produce are always relative to that period in time.
  • References
Below I have included some research images of Danelectros. Whilst researching, I found that the vast majority of photographs of the guitar were product images. However, I did find a few images of other Danelectro models that were interestingly lit and angled.

As there were few images of the guitar I intend to photograph, I decided to look at guitars in general hoping to gain some inspiration.

The part of the image on the left that I do not like is that the strings appear to be moving. I chose this mainly because of the angle it was at because it looks up the fret board and you cannot see the headstock. I chose the central image because I like that the focus is on the hands and the fret board. I like the image on the right hand side the most because it appears that the photo has a vignette, but in actual fact, it is the colour of the body of the guitar.

I found an advertisement that Danelectro made for their other products and I also found some other guitar adverts that were interesting.

  • Aims and Objectives
The target audience for this brief could range from guitar collectors, enthusiasts or people generally interested in music. I aim to create an interesting image which experiments with the angle of the guitar and the light reflecting off it. The scratch plate is much different on this guitar as it is almost pearlescent so I think that it would be interesting to photograph this up close. I would like to create an image that keeps to the style of the advertisements that Danelectro have made. I hope that it will promote the product in a way that it is aesthetically intriguing.
